FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How much of my time is this going to take?

Each group can decide how long they wish to meet. Typically, group meetings last for 1½ to 2 hours and meet at least two times a month. One hour can be for snacking, eating, and hanging out. One hour is recommended for Bible Study and prayer. Community Group members are encouraged to “do life together” by eating out, playing golf, boating, and even taking vacations together. The community that is built in a Community Group can be life changing. Additionally, most groups have a monthly party and/or monthly or quarterly service project.

Will there be homework? If so, how much?

Most Community Groups do not have homework from a book. There may be daily devotionals that are suggested or weekly considerations. Some groups may choose to read a book together then meet to discuss while others may want to do more in-depth Bible studies.

What will my group study?

A couple of times throughout the year, all Community Groups will study the same curriculum based on a Sunday morning sermon series. Outside of those sermon series, groups are encouraged to study a book of the Bible or a study that is Biblically based.

Am I going to have to talk or can I just sit and listen during meetings?

Community Group is like a family – sometimes you talk and sometimes you listen. No one is forced to talk or to lead the group. We all move at a different pace and you are allowed to do just that. However, you will receive only as much as you invest into the group.

How many weeks or months is this group going to last?

Community Group is like family. Some of them continue for years, while others may multiply and start new groups. Getting to really know others takes time. For this reason, we ask that you commit to your group for one year.

How much do I have to know about the Bible?

Nothing. Community Group is about learning the Bible, not debating it or being tested on it. Regardless of how much knowledge of the Bible you come in with, a Community Group is a safe place to foster spiritual growth and discipleship.

Who else is going to be in the group?

Community Groups may be formed by the leader or members inviting friends, neighbors, or acquaintances. The church also has a list of people wishing to join a Community Group and may form a group based on common interests, life stages, locations, or personalities.

If I don’t like it, can I leave without people being mad at me?

Yes, although our hope is that you would build such community that you do not want to stop being part of the Community Group. However, if you need to discuss and issue or options for choosing a new group, please email Pastor Katie.
